This photo is of a Drummer from the Khasi tribe of North East India. Perhaps he will be one of the 8000 drummers setting a 'Guinness World Record for the largest Drum Ensemble' in Shillong Meghalaya in October 2006.
The Meghalaya Tourism and the Meghalaya Tourism Development Forum (MTDF) is coordinating this event with the help of sponsors and volunteers. "Positive Vibrations" is the theme for this year's annual Autumn Festival. The Festival will kick-off with the gathering of 8000 drummers beating all to the same beat. Guinness World Record will send judges to record the event and validate the outcome. Students and locals are encouraged to participate and they will be eligible for a souvenir drum bearing the logo of the World Record Ensemble and also a Certificate of participation. The present world record is 7727 drummers set by Charity Po Leoung kuk at HongKong on 20th February 2005.
