The most undiscovered tourist destination in the world is North East India. This isolated region is rich with culture and natural unspoiled forests, mountains, rivers and lakes.
This photo shows one fast way to get from Guwahati to Shillong. The helicopter service is a unreliable government run affair so you never know if and when it will fly. Don't even try getting a reservation. You can't contact them so it is better and safer (a helicopter recently went down with 6 important politicians) to take a 3 hour taxi up the mountain.
Notice the Ambassador car in the photo. It is the shuttle from the airport terminal and drops passengers at the helicopter. From the car it is just a few minutes before the helicopter takes off on a 20 minute spectacular flight over the mountains to Shillong.
One year ago very few flights came to Guwahati airport in Assam. Now many Indian airlines land here including Kingfisher, Saraha, Jet and Deccan.
