Smart Styles
Smart Styles 4.0, a Creative-Mac award winner from Woodwing Software, is a small but powerful plugin for Adobe's InDesign CS/CS2. As one might have already guessed, Smart Styles 4.0 takes InDesign's inbuilt styling tools to a whole other level. Smart Styles are stored in the library palette and styling features can be applied to any objects or group of objects, be it single table, part of the table, text frames and tables within that frame. While InDesign's styling tools has separate tools for both paragraphs and characters, Smart Styles 4.0 have conveniently combined these two tools into one. With Smart Styles, users can have separate character style within the paragraph or even format part of the text by simply selecting it.
Advantage: Being stored in the library, Smart Styles can be applied by the simple drag and drop method. Smart Styles can also be shared across multiple users as it is being stored in the library.
Feature: One of the most interesting feature of Smart Styles 4.0 is the actual creation of the styles. Once a page is formatted the way you like it, all that is left to be done is dragging the page and dropping it into the Smart Style palette. SS 4.0 users can also assign a shortcut key making this process even easier.
